Title: GROWING 5G IN TAIWAN

Abstract: Taiwan moves forward fast on 5G. In January 2020, Taiwan started 5G spectrum auction and raised a total of TWD138.081 billion (USD4.6 billion) reaching record high. Taiwan entered 5G era in Q3 with 3 major operators launching 5G commercial services at the same time. Within a couple of months of fast network deployment, Taiwan ranked No. 4 in download speed for 5G.

5G is a revolutionary technology rather than just an upgrade of 4G. 5G offers ultra-large mobile broadband which brings consumer applications such as 4K/8K audio and video, e-sports, AR/VR enriching consumer experiences. 5G’s ultra-low latency opens up industrial applications such as Internet of Vehicles, smart manufacturing, telemedicine, and remote control. Title: 6G for 2030

Abstract: In this talk, we present our view on 6G technologies, its trends and timeline. As 5G technology enables the digital transformation of every vertical business, we see a radical paradigm shift from the conventional operator-centric view to an inclusive prosumer-centric view. With the proliferation of Artificial Intelligence for every application and service, we are entering a new era where the communications will conducted at the raw data level, rather on the machine learning model level, the network will not be monotheistic rather than federated, and the computing will not be centered, rather than distributed and integrated with connectivity. Communications network itself will not only serve as the function of connectivity, but can augmented into sensing and tactile, haptic to perform as the neural system for the physical world. All these new movements, technology disruptions and societal demands require the new thinking for 6G wireless.

Wireless technology have gone through serval major revolutions and it is will be the case for 6G that the disruptive technologies enable the wireless innovation and market success. In this talk, present our view on the technology path to 6G and associated research challenges. In addition, since the 6G is the future platform to enable new innovations with its state-of-the-art capabilities, we provide an analysis of the key-performance indicators for 6G. We also address the potential impact of machine learning, network sensing, mega-satellite-constellation and neural-center (instead of data center) to 6G.
