SCOPE 

The First Workshop on Wireless Propagation Channels for 5G and Beyond 5G Systems will take place during IEEE Global Conference on Communications (GLOBECOM) 2020, Taipei, Taiwan. The goal of the workshop is to solicit the recent developments in propagation channel measurements and models with a vision of its involvement into 5G and beyond 5G systems. The workshop will bring together researchers from academia, industry and goverment sectors to identify and discuss emerging concepts, open research problems, technical challenges, as well as solution methods in this context. 

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Propagation channels are at the core of any wireless system: They determine not only the ultimate performance limits, but also the relative merits of different systems, and even give guidelines of how systems should be designed. 

The difficulties in wireless channel measurements and models are due to the complex propagation processes that form the basis of a wireless channel. In the past decades, wireless systems have evolved dramatically, going from narrowband analogue systems, to wideband MIMO digital systems. Together, the deployment scenarios have expanded from cellular communications at microwave, millimeter-wave and more recently, sub-terahertz frequencies, to vehicular systems, and internet-of-things. As the systems have evolved, so have the channel models needed for the design and evaluation. As such, measurement and modeling of propagation channels has remained a vibrant area, which is particularly important for the evaluation and deployment of 5G systems, and the design of emerging 6G systems.

TOPICS OF INTEREST 

The topics of interest include but are not limited to the following: 

  • MIMO, massive MIMO, distributed MIMO, and large intelligent surface channel measurements and models below 6 GHz
  • Millimeter-wave and sub-terahertz massive MIMO channel measurements and models
  • Novel propagation measurement techniques for 5G and B5G systems
  • Novel parameter estimation and clustering methods, as well as artifical intelligence-enabeld post-processing analysis 
  • Vechicular and UAV channel measurements and models
  • Measurements and modelling of internet-of-things channels
  • Propagation measurements and modelling in industry 4.0 environments
